Gardens in Georgia

The mild southern climate means there's always something blooming in Georgia. Visit one of these gardens to add a day of fragrant beauty to your stay. Just 10 miles from Savannah, the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens at the Historic Bamboo Farm offer a beautiful floral experience. There's a camellia trail, a rose garden, and an iris trial garden, not to mention the orchid greenhouse, palm collection, and bamboo collection. Bask in the sun anywhere, but especially in the Sun Garden.

The country's first garden club was established in Athens, Georgia, 70 miles northeast of Atlanta. Founders Memorial Garden commemorates the Ladies' Garden Club of Athens with three acres of gardens surrounding a historic home. If rhododendrons are your passion, visit the Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden, set in Hiawassee in north Georgia. There are more than 3,000 plants. The garden houses the largest collection of rhododendrons in the state, and adds dogwood, tulip magnolia, and azaleas to make an even more colorful, scenic experience.

Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens at the Historic Bamboo Farm

Located 10 miles southwest of historic Savannah, the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens features a camellia trail, a water garden, a bamboo collection, a rose garden, a cottage garden, and a iris trial garden. The gardens are generally open seven days a week.

There's much to see and do at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens. Check out the pleasant and relaxing Water Garden, with it's nine-food waterfall and shallow bog basin. Don't miss a tour of the Barbour Lathrop Bamboo Collection, or the Rose Garden.There's also the Mediterranean Garden, the Iris Trial Garden, and Crapemyrtle Allee.

Founders Memorial Garden

Established in 1936, the Founders Memorial Garden serves as a commemoration to the Ladies' Garden Club of Athens – the first garden club in the country. Set in Athens, just 70 miles northeast of Atlanta, this scenic spot is a pride of northern Georgia found less than two miles from the Georgia Museum of Art – neighboring the University of Georgia.

Take a stroll through the nearly three-acre garden – a haven for any fan of botany, forestry or simple garden keeping – and tour the Headquarters House. The Founders Memorial Garden also hosts classes for basic horticulture, landscape design, and garden study.
