Florida State Capitol

Florida State Capitol

Visible for miles, this 25-story tower constructed in the 1970's serves as the official Florida State Capitol. It’s one of the tallest state capitol buildings in the country and the centerpiece of the Tallahassee Capitol Complex, which encompasses the Old Capitol, and nearly twenty other state office buildings.

This Florida Panhandle Capitol is open to the public Monday to Friday  (closed on state and national holidays) and admission is free. Self-guided tour information is available at the Capitol. For tours during the legislative session (March and April), reservations are recommended well in advance.

Main Street Bridge

Formally the John T. Alsop Jr. Bridge, the Main Street Bridge is a stunning structure crossing St. Johns River in Jacksonville – Florida’s largest city set in the northeastern part of the Sunshine State. Visitors may cross Main Street Bridge on foot for great views of downtown Jax.

The second bridge to span St. Johns River, this steel, vertical lift bridge stretches to 512 meters – and encompassing four lanes of traffic as U.S. Route 1 and US 90. Opened in 1941, the bridge is operated by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Southernmost Point Marker

Established in 1983, the Southernmost Point Marker is located in Key West in the southern Florida Keys. The marker is a large painted buoy – though actually a sewer junction – found at the intersection of South and Whitehead streets.

The Southernmost Point Marker makes for a great vacation photo. The marker is also within walking distance of Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, and the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum.
