Events and Festivals in North Dakota

From Fargo to Minot, you’ll find a wealth of fun activities, events, and festivals to enjoy during your trip to North Dakota. Most of the biggest events and activities take place during the winter season right around the holidays but you can also enjoy a handful of local celebrations during the spring and summer months. 

The One Big Christmas Fair is one of the biggest events of the year and attracts thousands of locals and visitors to the area every year. It’s the perfect place to find Christmas gifts and features more than 350 exhibitors selling handmade crafts, clothing, and jewelry. You can also enjoy delicious food and beverages from local vendors. It’s an unforgettable shopping experience at one of the biggest holiday marketplaces of the region.

Don’t miss the chance to attend events and festivals at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds, a premier destination that hosts the North Dakota State Fair every July and many conventions, concerts, markets, and competitions. It’s also home to the Nodak Speedway that hosts a variety of IMCA Stocks and IMCA Modifieds races throughout the year.

Make your way to downtown Fargo in March to watch the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It’s one of the biggest festivals of the new year even though the snow hasn’t completely disappeared. You can head to some local wineries and distilleries to round out your celebration to make the most of your visit.

If you’re visiting the city of Minot during the winter months, don’t miss the chance to jump on a horse-drawn sleigh ride to see the scenic sites from a fresh perspective. This city spares no expense when it comes to celebrating the Christmas season and hosts its own Renaissance Christmas Feast. You can also enjoy ice skating and other winter activities at the Roosevelt Rink and the Corbett Field & Rink here.

Agricultural and farming enthusiasts won’t want to miss the KMOT Ag Expo in Minot. It’s held in late January and features hundreds of exhibitors and almost 1,000 booths representing agriculture and industry in Western North Dakota. It’s the largest indoor agricultural show in the region and has been a regional tradition for more than 40 years.

Boating, hunting, and fishing enthusiasts can attend the Sports RV and Boat Show in Minot held in mid-March. This event showcases some of the latest innovations in the boating and RV world. You can make your way to the Fargo Marathon in mid-May to cheer on your favorite runners or compete in a full marathon or half marathon. The loop takes you through the beautiful Fargo region and neighboring Moorhead. A youth race is also part of the event and you’ll enjoy a variety of pre- and post-race activities with fellow racing enthusiasts during the event.

Grand Forks hosts the Grand Cities Art Fest in early June, the place to see hundreds of arts and crafts vendors showcasing their best works. You’ll enjoy great food from local vendors and live music throughout the festival. Head here to meet local and regional artists, mingle with the locals, and sample some local food.

Experience life during the fur trading post era with a fun summertime celebration at Fort Union. Located about 25 miles southwest of Williston, the Fort Union Trading Post Rendezvous is the place to learn all about life at a fur trading post by watching re-enactments of blacksmithing, flint knapping, and other 19th-century skilled trades. Stay all day to watch live music performances by fiddlers and settle in for a group campfire at night to make the most of your visit.

Another summertime event that continues to be one of the biggest celebrations of summer is the Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo. The event takes place at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds and runs for a full nine days. It’s the event to see the Murphy Brothers Carnival in action, catch the Dueling Pirates Show, and watch car racing events.
