Fine Fermentations in Nebraska

Whether you consider yourself to be a tasting expert, perfectly pairing a pale ale with something salty and fried, or you simply enjoy a cold brew on a hot day, beer has a way of transcending time. Plan a visit to Nebraska and check out these exceptional breweries – just be sure to nominate a DD.

LUCKY BUCKET BREWING CO.

A relative new kid on the block, the Lucky Bucket Brewing Co. has been brewing and crafting their fine selection of ales, wheat beers, and others since 2009. Lucky Bucket Brewing Co. is found in La Vista, a charming and quaint city southwest of downtown Omaha. Plan for a tour of Lucky Bucket – they last between 30 to 45 minutes, cost a mere $3, and are held every day but Monday and Tuesday.

BRICKWAY BREWERY & DISTILLERY

Keep the beer flowing in Nebraska. Make your way to the Brickway Brewery & Distillery. Of the many breweries you can visit in Nebraska, Brickway is the only one also a combination brewery-distillery. Brickway Brewery & Distillery was also the first brewery in post-prohibition Nebraska. You can visit the actual brewery site, just east of downtown Omaha near the Missouri River, or you can check out Omaha's Old Market where they have a tasting room. Tours of Brickway are open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

NEBRASKA BREWING COMPANY

Split between two unique locations, the Nebraska Brewing Company is another sterling example of the exceptional brewing revolution happening in the Cornhusker State. You can find the Nebraska Brewing Co. Restaurant and Brew Pub at the Shadow Lake Towne Center, while the actual brewery and taproom is in La Vista.

Both locations offer the full selection of Nebraska Brewing Co. beer, while the restaurant & brew pub will offer a more complete experience, offering unique food pairings.

BOTTLE ROCKET BREWING CO.

Southwest of Omaha, and only minutes from Lincoln, you'll find one of the newest additions to the Nebraska brewing landscape – Bottle Rocket Brewing Company. Found in the city of Seward, Bottle Rocket Brewing hit the scene in 2015 with signature pours like the WIT Willy, a very nice Belgian White, and the Punk Lite, and American-style Ale.

You can find Bottle Rocket Brewing at 230 S. 5th Street, and they have tours available each day of the week, minus Monday and Tuesday when they are closed.

BLUE BLOOD BREWING CO.

This next brewery might be the most unique of all the Nebraska brew houses. Blue Blood Brewing Co., based out of Lincoln, is housed in Robber's Cave. The historic site, known by many locals to be haunted, is said to be a former hideout location of Jesse James. Outside of local lore, Robber's Cave was once the site of Pioneer Brewing. These days, the site is home to the Blue Bloods Brewing Co., who've built a 9,000-square-foot brewery, taproom, and restaurant atop the cave.

KINKAIDER BREWING COMPANY

As one of the most centrally located breweries in the state, Kinkaider Brewing Company is a farm brewery found in Broken Bow – stop in for a taste on your way out to the Nebraska sandhills. Make the drive in from nearby Kearney or North Platte, bout just to the south, and enjoy a tour of the Kinkaider Brewing Farm. Check them out during your next tour of this area – Kinkaider is open only on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

THUNDERHEAD BREWING COMPANY

Last on this list, but certainly not the last brewery Nebraska has to offer, is the Thunderhead Brewing Company. Found in the heart of Kearney, Thunderhead Brewing is north of Interstate 80, and just off of Central Avenue along 21st. Street.

Thunderhead is open every day of the week, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., features an on-site restaurant for excellent pairings, and a whole slew of excellent suds. Be sure to try the Doppel Bock, a well-crafted German-style bock, and the Prairie Peach Wheat beer is made with real Oregon peaches.
