Sports Fans in Massachusetts

For those that choose to not just watch sports, Massachusetts is filled with plenty of options for you to participate in. With the great outdoors as the number one inspiration, The Boston Marathon continues to be the most beloved American marathon, and the most challenging, since 1897. Every year on Patriot’s Day, the third Monday in April, thousands of runners and over 500,000 spectators head to the greater Boston area to run, jog or watch the 26-mile trek through Boston’s winding country roads, past Boston College, up Heartbreak Hill and down Commonwealth Avenue to the finish line in Copley Square.

For those that can’t get enough of the snowy mountains, Massachusetts is home to many ski areas throughout the state. Western Massachusetts features the Butternut Ski Area and Jiminy Peak, while visitors and residents of Boston can flock to the Bradford Ski Area or the Blue Hills Ski Area once the snow starts to fall. Ski Bradford is located in Haverhill – less than an hour north of Boston and features 48 skiable acres, and includes 13 runs, an impressive terrain park, and eight lifts servicing an up to 9,600 skiers an hour. Located 30 miles southwest of Ski Bradford, the Nashoba Valley Ski Area is set in the city of Westford, just northwest of Concord. Nashoba Valley features 17 ski trails, a 16-run tube park, and two terrain parks – Sundance Park and Playground Park. Using four chairlifts, three rope tows, and two conveyor lifts, the Nashoba Valley Ski Area has a vertical drop of 240 feet, with a high point of 422 feet.

Warmer months in Massachusetts make every golfer enthused to take it to the fairways. Whether you're a scratch golfer or the person who just purchased their first set of clubs, visit the many award-winning Massachusetts golf courses and play 18 holes. Explore the area north of Rockland and discover one of the state's premier golf courses at South Shore Country Club. Plan a visit to Cambridge and be sure to book a tee time at the Fresh Pond Golf Course. Play 18 holes at the impressive Marlborough Golf Course, a par of 71, found within the Marlborough Country Club.
