Civil War history throughout Mississippi is hard to miss. There are national parks dedicated to preserving the honor and memory of those who fought, parks, landmarks, and museums – all of it a way for locals and visitors alike to experience Mississippi's role in the Civil War.

In the northern region, close to Ripley, be sure to embark on a tour of the Corinth National Cemetery. Built in 1866 across 20 acres of land, the Corinth National Cemetery has more than 7,000 interments from the Civil War.

Closer to downtown Tupelo, and still an easy drive in from nearby Ripley, the Tupelo National Battlefield is another of the must-visit Civil War landmark sites in Mississippi. This site honors and celebrates the lives of those who fought the Battle of Tupelo on July 14th and 15th, 1864.

Head southwest from Corinth and check out Greenwood, home of Fort Pemberton Memorial Park.

Explore the park and gain insights into the battle where the Confederates successfully held off the Union forces and General Ulysses S. Grant. He would then have to find a different route into Vicksburg.

When you make it to Vicksburg, be sure to check out the Grand Gulf Military State Park. Found almost directly between Natchez and Vicksburg, this park features the – still standing – Confederate Memorial Chapel.

Drive in from Biloxi or Gulfport and make the most of your tour of the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library – the Jefferson Davis House can yield a full day of tours and exploration. Before you depart from Biloxi and the coast, be sure to visit the famous Biloxi Lighthouse.
