Austin & Hill Country
Soulful Lifestyle
Long sunny days set the stage for countless outdoor activities in Austin & Hill Country. From explorations of Hill Country parks, to dipping in swimming holes like Barton Springs Pool. What's more, local event calendars in communities from Austin to Blanco to College Station to Bryan are filling up with more special events, festivals, sports, and family-friendly fun all throughout the year.
Chet's Picks in Austin & the Hill Country
The Hill Country is well known for its beautiful nature, fun swimmin’ holes and good eats. Here are some of my top picks for this region!
There is always something new and fresh happening in Austin and Hill Country. In Austin, enjoy some of the best BBQ while enjoying one of the hottest music scenes in the country. In the Hill Country, enjoy spectacular views from both above ground at Shannon’s Rock and deep below in Cascade Caverns.
Catch a Game
All the excitement and pageantry of college football is back this fall in Austin and Hill Country. The University of Texas Longhorns will play all home games at Darrell K. Royal Stadium, and this season features some marquee matchups.
When you make your way out to Bryan, found east of downtown Austin, you’ll be in Aggies territory. Texas A&M is based out of nearby College Station, and the residents of area towns like Franklin and Madisonville are Aggie-crazy.
Get Outdoors
There are more than a few ways to splash around in Austin. Check out Hamilton Pool, Barton Springs Pool, and Deep Eddy Pool. For the clothing-optional inclined, check out Hippie Hollow Park. And if you're just looking to float, try sailing, kayaking, or canoeing on Lady Bird Lake.
Catch a Show
One of the premier events held in Hill Country is slated for the fall. Austin City Limits Music Festival is a much-anticipated bash, and will be held over two weekends at the Zilker Park. Make the short drive in from nearby Pflugerville and experience the music first hand.
Grab a bite and drink
Hill Country is a hot spot for breweries and distilleries, and is surrounded by wineries. If you're on foot for the night, check out the Jester King Craft Brewery, Austin Beerworks, and Live Oak Brewery – many offering tours.
Outside of the city, try Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco and Spirit of Texas Distillery in Pflugerville.
